How it Works

How It Works

Easy Orders

And we will help you every step of the way to the perfect pet PAWtrait!

Step 1: Email images of your pet, and tell me all about them! What sort of style are you interested in?

Step 2: I will consult with you to hash out details of the painting. This includes making sure I have the perfect image of your pet, color schemes, styles, and size.

Step 3: When the size and style is agreed and confirmed, I will charge 50% of the final price as a deposit and after the painting is completed I will email you a copy for your approval. This is the time for any minor changes!

Step 4: Once approved, you can proceed to a bank transfer of the remaining amount on my account or pay me in cash on delivery.

Deliveries will be done on Saturdays.

Now choose your Painting Style, Size and Pricing:

Standard Styles:

Pop Art- My most common request! These paintings feature a bright background, bold outlines, and fun and loose paint strokes.

Caricature - Similar to the above style, these involve even more color added to the pet, and a whimsical painting style that aims to capture the character of your pet more then anything!

Semi-Realistic - Smooth paint strokes and neutral backgrounds make this style more realistic, but without becoming a fully detailed painting. (Fully detailed paintings are available, see below)

Black and White - Any painting can also be done in black and white at no additional cost!

Non-Standard Styles:

Detailed/Realistic paintings- These paintings take much longer to complete, because every detailed is captured! For the more serious PAWtrait customer; this painting will turn out the most like a photograph.

Detailed background - Sometimes blurred or colorful backgrounds just aren’t what you have in mind, for an additional fee I can include a detailed background such as clouds, a landscape, flowers, or whatever you have in mind.

Oil Painting - Oil paintings is not my preferred medium, but they do come out with richer colors and smooth blending. If your interested in getting your paintings done in oil, (especially realistic paintings) I can quote you a price. Please note these take much longer to dry and complete

Pen and Ink  - These can be done on special request on standard 8" x 11" ink paper, unless otherwise requested

Details and Conditions:

Timing: Timing is strictly dependent on size and complexity of the painting, and how many orders I have at that time. For most small/medium standard paintings, 2 weeks can be the expected time to completion. Sometimes, this can be much sooner, or in cases of large paintings, up to 4-6 weeks is expected.

The price quoted is for a single pet, regardless of how much of the animal is painted. If you are interested in having multiple pets in the same paintings, I can quote you the price during the consultation.

All paintings are done in Acrylic medium unless otherwise specified. However, for the sake of timely delivery and best result, it is suggested that acrylic always be used.

All paintings are unframed.

Framing is available at Fine Art & Frames, Centre Commercial Phoenix.

Capturing your pet

Capturing your Pet

To get the best PawTrait, it is important to have good quality photographs so that your pet’s likeness and personality can be captured!

But, it’s not always easy to get your pet to cooperate for a good photograph!

Here are some tips to help you out:

1. Quality

You might have your pet perfectly posed, but if it your image is too fuzzy and I can’t see any details, it doesn’t do much good! So try to get a high quality image with a digital camera. Cell phone pictures are ok, but they should be nice and clear!

2. Lighting

Taking your picture on an overcast or cloudy day often produces the best lighting. Bright sunlight and heavy shadows can create a dramatic image, but a lot of detail can be lost. Avoid using a Flash on your camera, and avoid indoor images.

3. Posing

How your pet is posed is really up to you! Often goofy looking pictures turn out great! Other poses that work well are straight-face-on images, or side profile. Things to avoid include pictures that are very foreshortened (this is when the subject is coming towards or away from the camera very extremely….for example, if you stand in front of a mirror and hold your hand straight out, it becomes much larger appearing…foreshortened!) or at very unusual angles.

Seem like too much? Struggling to get a good picture?

Photography services are also available. I can come out with my own equipment and get the perfect image to use! For Details on pricing for this service, please make an email inquiry.

If your pet has passed…. Don’t worry. I can work with whatever images you have to make a memorial for your pet.
